This is a beginner guide and covers up to level 50.
This is updated as per latest Lore-master class rework introduced in Update 41.
Feel free to provide feedback, suggestion, critique, correction, clarification or counter argument etc!
- Race recommendation: River Hobbits (+3% Lightning-type Damage & Improved Will) or Man (+5% 1H sword Damage & Improved Will)
- Virtue Traits: Fidelity, Wisdom, Loyalty, Justice & Honour (four defensive traits, and one offensive)
- Class Trait: Keeper of Animals (Blue) - While Blue is not necessarily the highest in DPS for an LM, it is a pet-based class and perfectly fine for landscape levelling as well as instances. If you’re the kind of person who loves having a variety of pets (with different skills) fight for you, this is the class to choose. Oh, at later levels, Blue LM is the only class where you can summon a War Wolf to fight alongside you in mounted battles.
- Stat Priority:
- Primary stats: Will, Vitality (for health)
- Secondary stats: Crit, Tactical Mastery, Tactical Mitigation, Physical Mitigation, Finesse
- Crafting Professions recommendation:
- 3 craft option: Tailor, Forester and Scholar
- 4 craft option: Tailor, Forester, Prospector, Jeweler
- Combat pets area a large part of a Blue Lore-master (bLM) so let’s discuss about them first.
- There are 6 categories of pets (bear, raven, lynx, bog-lurker, eagle and sabre-tooth), each with their own four unique skills.
- (there are different cosmetic variations for these pets, for those of you who like to collect)
- Pets have their own skill bar, with 11 skills. While the first seven skills are the same for all pets, the last four skills are unique to each pet category.
- Pet’s first 7 skills can be dragged onto your own skill bar and use them to control your pet, whether to attack, assist or follow etc.

- these four pet skills are controlled by the Lore-master’s 4 skills as below:
- Minor Pet Command (learned at Level 2)
- Major Pet Command (learned at Level 18)
- Sign of the Wild: Rage (learned at Level 2 when Blue line trait is chosen)
- Sign of the Wild: Protection (learned at Level 2 when Blue line trait is chosen)

- Your pet may produce a Flanked! effect while attacking enemies, while Flaked! the following skills have additional effects:
- Staff Strike deals bonus damage
- Wizard’s Spark provides speed boost to the LM
- Wizard’s Frost heals the LM
- Your pet’s attack damage, crit chance and mitigation effects can be further improved by temporary buffs (for 31sec) triggered by Wizard’s Sigils while at the same time damaging and inflicting negative effects to the enemy.
- Wizard Spark (learned at Level 1)
- Wizard Frost (learned at Level 3)
- Wizard Fire (learned at Level 4)
- The Wizard’s Sigils are tiered skills, which means with each successive application, their effects grow stronger, progressing from Tier 1 up to Tier 5.
- A Blue line trait skill, Retribution (obtained around lv 17 with a trait), empowers the Sigils to instantly apply at Tier 5 and is a very important part of the skill rotation of Blue-line Lore-masters.

- Character Level 1-6, 1st 5 TPs - 5 pts in Hunting Instinct
- +10% Pet damage and -5% Pet attack duration - no brainer, your pet is your weapon, increase in its damage is always good
- This unlocks Inner Flame, a healing skill for both Lore-master and the pet. Note that Inner Flame only works if you have a pet summoned.
- Character Level 7-11, 2nd 5 TPs - 4 pts in Potent Sigils, 1 pt in Friends of the Wilds (Bog-guardian)
- +30% damage to Wizard’s Sigils is a must-have
- Bog-guardian if you like to use it, otherwise put 1 point in Survival Instinct
- Inspiring Rage unlocks, which buffs your raid members with +4% damage, when you use SoW:R
- Character Level 12-16, 3rd 5 TPs - 1 pt in Friends of Noble Bird (Eagle), 4 points Survival Instinct
- Eagle is one of the strongest pet and it’s a must for landscape
- Survival Instinct improves your pet’s defences
- Major Pet command now buffs your raid with +10% damage
- Character Level 17-21, 4th 5 TPs - 1 pt in Don’t You Touch Him, 3 pts in Wild Alacrity and 1 pt in Survival Instinct
- This now unlock a very important skill: Retribution!
- Wild Alacrity add more duration to your Sigils which is very helpful (less refresh)
- And round up Survival Instinct making your pet more resilient.
- You now unlock Battle Knowledge which creates a ground area for your allies to have their DPS buffs

- Obviously make sure your pet is summoned. Here’s some guidelines on which pet to use:
- Bear to tank (or taunt) and stun
- Raven for some extra defence and heals
- Lynx for single-target damage (and AoE with cooldown)
- Bog-guardian for range DPS
- Eagle for single-target & AoE damage and unique defensive ability to Lore-master
- Sabre-cat for AoE
- Make your pet attack the enemy using Attack command (Pet skill but you put it on your skillbar)
- Once pet is engaged with the enemy, cast Retribution (if you have it unlocked). Immediately cast three Wizard Sigils. (You’ll have about 4sec to cast 3 spells, so you need to be quick).
- If there are multiple enemies, make sure to cast pet’s AoE spell first so that it draws the aggro from all the enemies (and prevents them from coming to you!)
- Retribution will instantly make your Sigils Tier 5 (and AoE)and increases your pet’s DPS significantly as well as its defences.
- The Sigils last for 31sec, so you can keep casting them roughly at every 28 sec so they continue to last on your pet.
- Use Minor/Major pet skills as well as SoW: Rage & SoW: Prot. Depending on the pet you use, this will vary. So it’s best to understand the four pet skills and learn when and how to use them.
- SoW: Rage has a relatively short cooldown so use it whenever it’s available.
- SoW:Prot has a long cooldown, and should only be used for emergencies.
- Use Burning Embers (for single target) and Cracked Earth (for AOE) while the pet holds aggro.
- Use Water Lore/Inner Flame to heal yourself or pet if needed but healing will generate aggro. Your pet should hold aggro well and if in AoE situation, use pets with good AoE skills such as Eagle (highly recommended) or Sabre-cat
- If the enemy comes into your melee range, use Staff Strike to attack
- Character Level 22-31, 5th 5 TPs - 1pt Sabre-tooth, 2pts - Prepare for War (DPS), 2pts - Hearty Diet (survivality)
- Few options available at this stage: DPS/defence or balanced (I presented balanced approach here)
- Prepare for War gives you more tact mastery (for yourself) and pet damage
- Hearty Diet for more morale for both you and your pet
- Put additional point in either Sabre-tooth (if you want to use him) or more on either Prepare for War or Hearty Diet.
- Fellowship Friend unlocks buffing your pet on their crit
- Do not put more points in “Don’t You Touch Him”. We only needed one point to enable Retribution.
- Character Level 32-41, 6th 5 TPs - 4 pts in Hearty Diet, 1 pt in Catmint
- Filling out Hearty Diet with total 6 pts will give you additional mitigation which you probably need at this level range
- Catmint helps your pet alive more and cleanse if they get any debuffs
- Bolstered Bond unlocks making your pets quite a bit stronger and deal more damage

- Character Level 42-50, 7th 5 TPs - 1 pt in Critical Coordination, 1 pt in A Murder of Crows, 1 pt in Feral, and 2 pts in Prepare for War
- We will skip the entire 5th row of trait skills and jump below
- When Critical Coordination procs, prepare to use your heavy damage abilities as you now have 100% chance to crit!
- A Murder of Crows puts a debuff on your enemy (+25% incoming damage from EVERYONE). This is very useful in a group setting, where you need to finish off a boss with everyone piling their damage on the boss. This can be further enhanced by getting everyone in Battle Knowledge circle.
- Feral makes your pet near invincible, enough said!
- Finish off Prepare for War for additional damage boost
- The last set-bonus, Tutelage of the Brown Wizard boosts up your Tier 5 Sigil skills (remember using Retribution gives you T5 sigils immediately)

¶ Onwards and Upwards!
From 50 and onwards, you might want to start investing in the red line for more DPS output
- Note as Red is your secondary trait line, you will need to spend 2 trait points to access 1 point in the skills
- Here’s a suggested trait tree for a level 120-ish Lore-master with 85 trait lines in total.
