The AGOF Wiki was created to archive various guides, tutorials and other information written by members of A Group of Friends, a casual kinship on the Glamdring server for Lord of the Rings Online.
It uses Wiki.js software hosted on a private Ubuntu server.
At its formation, several of the founding members of A Group of Friends expressed an interest in translating their personal notes into articles for the benefit of members. A Discord channel was created for this purpose. Over time, well written answers to questions were also cleaned up and added to the archive.
Before long, it was found that Discord was not an ideal platform for a knowledgebase as browsing or locating information was difficult. A number of solutions were proposed and rejected.
Eventually, the Wiki.js software was found to provide an ideal solution, using well-tested software that allowed multiple contributors to edit articles and maintain the wiki, and not requiring command-line knowledge once it was configured.
